According to Sky Sports News, Jasprit Bumrah has allegedly excluded himself to become India’s next Test captain. Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant have now emerged as top candidates to replace Rohit Sharma, who recently announced their retirement from Test cricket. Although Bumrah was widely seen as a favorite for the role, he is understood that he informed the selectors that he could not be committed to play all five matches in the long Test series due to workload concerns. To play five tests against England, with India, selectors are asked to like someone who can play the entire series continuously.

Out of the race with Bumrah, the selectors will probably choose between Gill and Pants for captaincy. Any player who is chosen as the captain is expected to be named as the vice-captain. The official announcement with India’s squad for the England series is expected till 24 May.

In another major development, Sky Sports News reports that Virat Kohli has informed the Control Board of Cricket for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his decision to retire from Test cricket before the upcoming England series. While BCCI did not release a public statement, according to Sky Sports News, the report did not deny the report.

It is understood that Kohli told the chief selector Ajit Aggarkar in April that the intention of going away with his intention before the New World Test Championship cycle started in June. Agrakar and another BCCI officer were planning to meet Kohli again, but the meeting is currently uncertain due to increasing tension along the Indo-Pakistan border. The government has advised citizens against the inter-city journey.
