IPL 2025 is expected to resume on 16 or 17 May. The final can be taken out of Kolkata, the reason …

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been suspended on 16 May or 17 due to the India-Pakistan military conflict, which is finally being transported out of Kolkata. The declaration of ceasefire on Saturday paved the way for a week to resume the suspended league on 9 May for a week. Members of the IPL governing council and BCCI officials discussed the plan to resume on Sunday. BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla said that the board is still working on creating a suitable program.

β€œThere is no decision on IPL so far. BCCI officials are working on the solution. BCCI Secretary, IPL President is interacting with franchise and everyone, so very soon we will know about the decision, efforts are being made to resume the tournament quickly,” Shukla said.

A IPL source said that the league will resume again in Lucknow with Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore – the game that was to be played on 9 May.

A source told PTI, β€œAll teams have been asked to recall their players, the tournament will resume in Lucknow on May 16 or May 17. The final schedule will be shared tomorrow (Monday).”

The source said, β€œMost likely, the matches will be held at four places and Delhi and Dharamasala will not get to host more matches. All equipment has already been removed from these places.”

The source also said that there would be no change in the site for the qualifier I and the eliminator that Hyderabad was to host, but the Kolkata city could fail to host the final on 1 June due to rain forecast that day.

The source said, β€œThere has been no change in places for the play-off stage so far, but it seems that the rain may affect the final in Kolkata. In that case it can be finally played in Ahmedabad.”

Speaking to PTI, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said: β€œIn the next few days, we will start consultation with franchises, broadcasters, sponsors and state associations to host the remaining matches before crystallizing for a decision when the league starts again.

β€œGiven the importance of IPL at this turn, it would be prudent and necessary to take the head of the Government of India before finalizing time for its restart.”

Abandoned game between PBK and DC

It is possible that both teams will be awarded one point. Punjab Kings scored 122 runs in 1 overs in 10.1 overs, when the game had to be stopped in Dharmasala due to increasing tension between India and Pakistan.

The players were kept in a bus for Jalandhar in Punjab, from where they traveled to Delhi by train.

If only four places are selected to host the remaining 16 matches, then Delhi’s capitals, Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians will miss their home games.

This means that the remaining part of the tournament will be limited to Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Lucknow.

CSK, RR and SRH are already out of recording and the fight to seal four play-off spots is among the seven teams.

Gujarat Titans are now leading the table with 16 points and better NRRs of 0.793, followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore (16 points, 0.482), Punjab Kings (15), Mumbai Indians (14), Delhi Rajdhanis (13), Kolkata Knight Riders (11) and Lucknow Super Guns (10).
