Charlotte Edwards did not make a better debut for his tenure as a head coach, as England produced a commanding performance to defeat the West Indies in the initial match of the T20I series according to the ICC official website. West Indies captain Hail Mathews burnt the first innings with a brilliant unbeaten century (100*), anchor to her side for the total competitive clan of 147. However, his efforts proved inadequate as England easily chased the target, showing his depth and dominance with both bat and ball.
Chase of England was anchored by a brilliant unbeaten 81 from Sophia Dunkle, which was well supported by former Captain Heather Knight with 43 Not Out.
The pair shared a 94 -run partnership for the third wicket in only 10 overs, guiding England to win in Cantorbury with 21 balls and eight wickets.
Earlier this year, the womenโs ashes exiting a disappointing whitewash in Australiaโs hands, England marked the beginning of a new chapter, with a new head coach and a new all-format captain with a Nut skivor-arm, as a new all-format captain, in commanding fashion.
Speaking after the game, Sophia Dunkle, who broke her highest T20I score, praised the impact that Head Coach Charlett Edwards had seen in the new form for England.
โIt was great to start summer with a win,โ said Dunkle, as quoted from the ICC official website.
โLoti (Charlotte Edwards) has come as a cool person and is clear with what we want to do,โ he said.
He said, โI wanted to come out and contributed to the team and trying to impress as much game as possible. It was a good night. The Heather has been outstanding around the group; nothing has changed on that front,โ she said.
On the other hand, West Indies captain Mathews indicated the shortcomings of his side and what to expect from the rest of the series.
Hail Mathews said, โThere is a good day for me, but unfortunate to win unfortunate victory. It felt that we are 15-20 runs.โ
He said, โWe were not able to form several partnerships to defend 150 at todayโs wrong end.
