On December 10, 2022, Karun Nair wrote on his social media handle: ‘Dear cricket gives me another chance.’ On May 24, 2025, Cricket replied: ‘Dear Karun, you will get another chance.’ 33 -year -old Nair got an opportunity to re -launch for a career through the selection of an 18 -member Indian squad for the next month’s visit to England. It is an extraordinary story of the firmness and return of desire to grind it in the disappointing ambiguity of domestic cricket in eight years.
Even the most difficult man can uproot under the drill of that drain, optimism for drying from the sun by each passing day.
But Nair dared to dream of a comeback, when the world around him believed that all hopes were extinguished. After all, it is easy to forget the old names among the rush of fresh talents.
However, a part in Nair remained uncontrolled, forcing him to locate various channels, and to return to ways to score, and join Northamptonshire in English County Cricket was a wise first step.
In 2023, he scored 249 runs out of an average of 83 on an average of three matches for the Northeers, including the hundred against the final champion Surrey.
A year later, Nair scored 487 runs from an average of 49 from seven matches, including the century against Glamorgan for his county.
But those numbers were not strong enough to highlight a national return, but were quite good to give him confidence.
“Everyone knows, it is difficult for Indian batsmen to go and score in England … it is difficult to play the moving ball. Therefore, I have learned a lot about myself as a batsman and finding ways to score runs and believe ways to score runs,” Nair told PTI last year.
The real change in his career came from Karnataka with his shift in Vidarbha, where he was finding it difficult to get a place in the first eleven.
Widharbh, who was looking for an experienced supporter in his batting line-up, welcomed Nair and welcomed his ranks.
The right -handed batsman did not disappoint his new side, scoring 690 runs from 10 matches, with two hundreds and three half -centuries.
Nair rubbed his shares in the 2024–25 season, scoring 863 runs from nine matches, on average with 54 to four hundreds.
To top this, Bangalore Batter scored 779 runs out of seven matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with five centuries, and his average stood at an astronomical 389.50.
Nair was not only knocking the doors, but he crashed through him with those demonstrations, as his inclusion in the Indian team became the subject of national debate.
“This is what he always wanted to do-Store Run, come back to Team India. From 1 day in Vidarbha camp, he will tell us that I have another 3-4 year old cricket at the highest level. It is a pleasure that he finally managed to achieve it, and we all take pride in him,” Usman Ghani, The Widerbh coach, PTI.
Nair’s steller run helped the Ranji Trophy to bag the Ranji Trophy in the 2024-25 season, but many people did not pay attention, helping them come out of a dark cellar.
Nair was reborn. The confidence in his skills increased manifold. He opened more for other players in the dressing room.
“I think when he came to us (Vidarbha) feared his abilities. But once he got a regular opportunity to play domestic cricket against quality opponents, confidence returned.
“It can be safely said that he blooms with the team. He never looked like a stranger in the dressing room and we took additional care to not make him feel like an outsider. He just needed some big and frequent runs. He got it with a comfortable environment and opened it as a cricketer,” Gani said.
Nair is parallel to the extraordinary withdrawal of Indian cricket in the stored history of Indian cricket VVS laxmanThe domestic season of 1999 leads to stirring.
Fall from the Indian team, Laxman went back to the Ranji Trophy and scored 1415 runs in nine matches in nine matches from nine matches.
From that point, Laxman’s career took a ‘very special’ turn the next decade.
Nair is at a very similar level, and during the five -match testing series in England, he would get a chance to be revealed to a familiar rival, against which he made a triple hundred.
Can Nair touch those heights again? There will no longer be a lot of naysayers.
