India’s new Test captain Shubman Gill will have to lead the front in the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, but the young team should not be judged very quickly, realizing that spin bowling is a great Harbhajan Singh. Gill, 25, was appointed as a full -time captain of the Indian team with Rishabh Pant on Saturday, which was his deputy with the new World Test Championship cycle that began with a tour of England next month. Harbhajan welcomed Gill’s choice as Captain but said that there are further challenges.
Harbhajan told PTI during the launch of the TV show ‘Huz the Boss’ on Sunday, “It’s clearly a great step, with a young captain like Shubman Gill, who has performed well in franchise cricket.”
“But it’s going to be a difficult tour, England has never had an easy tour. I hope Shubman, Rishabh Pant … It is a young team. No Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma, suddenly there is a big difference in that team and needs to be filled, so Shubman will have to lead from the front,” he said. Harbhajan said that Gill’s side should be given time to find his feet and to be judged very quickly in terms of losing the series for England.
He said, “I would also say that people should not even start telling that this tour does not go in their way.”
Harbhajan said, “This is fine, even if they don’t win, they must be learning (from this). I am confident that all the people going on this tour will be better.”
