The Marylebon Cricket Club (MCC) said on Thursday that it has given honorary life membership to Moeen Ali and Meg Lanning. The pair, which announced their retirement from international cricket in the last two years, have agreed to accept the proposal for the prestigious membership of the club. All -rounder Moin made his Test debut at Lordβs in 2014 and in all, 68 Tests for England, 138 Odis and 92 T20I, scored 6,678 runs and scored 366 wickets in all three formats. He won the Ashes twice, as well as the 50-over and T20 World Cup and there is a Test hat-trick in his name. Moeen also holds a record for the fastest half -century in T20 cricket for England.
βIt is a tremendous honor that MCC is to be honored with honorary life membership. It is really humble to be listed with so many cricketers. I am really grateful to the club, because an HLM is being made. I always enjoy playing in Lordβs and had an incredible feeling to walk on such a historic site.β
On the other hand, Meg made his debut for Australia at the age of 18 and became one of his biggest batsmen in a 13 -year career. He captained Australia to win the 50 over World Cup, four T20 World Cup and Commonwealth Games Gold Medal. He scipped 17 centuries in all three formats in 182 of his 241 performances, while scoring 8,352 runs in international cricket.
βI am thrilled to be honored with MCCβs honorary life membership, become part of a reputable club and is running on a long queue in a long queue of fabulous cricketers from both Australia and around the world.
Veteran Fast-Bouler Sir James Anderson presented his honorary life membership by Mark Nicholas on Outfield at Lordβs, where he played his last Test match in July 2024, Mack completed his life members to connect three members in the last 12 months. βIt is fantastic to see three more cricketers as members of the MCC, with the preparation of Lordβs honorary life for its first international action of the new season.β
βMany of the greatest cricketers to play the game in the list of honorary life members are involved, and this is the latest cohort no exception. He has contributed immensely to the game both on the pitch and outside, and we are honored to welcome him as members of our club,β said Claier Taylor, chairman of the MCC Cricket Committee.
